We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Database Administrator / Engineer to manage, optimize, and secure our core database infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for the health, performance, and scaling of our multi-platform database environment, which includes PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle systems. The ideal candidate has hands-on technical proficiency across both modern open-source relational setups (PostgreSQL and MySQL) and traditional enterprise systems (Oracle), ensuring high availability, reliable backups, and efficient query performance. Key Responsibilities Database Administration Install, configure, patch, and maintain PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle database instances across production and non-production environments. Performance Tuning Proactively monitor system metrics to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks. Assist development teams with query optimization, indexing strategies, and schema design. Backup Disaster Recovery Implement, maintain, and regularly test robust backup and recovery strategies to prevent data loss and ensure business continuity. Replication High Availability Manage database replication, clustering, and failover mechanisms (e.g., PostgreSQL streaming replication, MySQL replication, Oracle Data Guard). Security Access Control Enforce database security policies, manage user permissions, and ensure data encryption at rest and in transit. Automation Write and maintain automation scripts (using Shell, Python, or PowerShell) for routine maintenance, deployments, and health monitoring. Troubleshooting Provide timely resolution for database alerts, connectivity issues, and performance degradation tickets. Required Skills Qualifications Education Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). Experience Minimum 4 years of professional experience in relational database administration (RDBMS) within a production environment, with active hands-on exposure to all three platforms. Core Technical Competencies PostgreSQL Practical knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, configuration, vacuum processes, and replication setups. MySQL Solid understanding of MySQL storage engines, replication types, and configuration tuning. Oracle Hands-on experience with Oracle database management, including architecture basics, backup/recovery utilities (RMAN), and Data Guard. SQL Proficiency Strong command of standard SQL alongside procedural languages (PL/pgSQL, PL/SQL). OS Infrastructure Solid working knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems, commanding basic administration and shell scripting. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with cloud database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or GCP Cloud SQL). Basic exposure to database migration tools and cross-platform data syncing. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Associate, PostgreSQL or MySQL Administrator tracks).
