Job Description

The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects. This role involves preparing cost estimates, managing budgets, negotiating contracts, and ensuring project costs are controlled within set budgets. The Quantity Surveyor will work closely with project managers, site engineers, and clients to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Key Responsibilities Cost Estimation Prepare and submit detailed cost estimates and feasibility studies for projects. Analyze drawings, specifications, and other project documents to create accurate cost projections. Bill of Quantities (BOQ) Prepare and update the Bill of Quantities, ensuring it reflects all materials, labor, and other project-related costs. Verify that the BOQ is in line with the technical and contractual documents of the project. Tendering and Procurement Assist in the preparation of tender documentation and contracts. Evaluate and negotiate tenders, bids, and contracts with subcontractors and suppliers. Analyze market rates for labor, materials, and services to ensure competitive pricing. Cost Control Financial Management Monitor and control project costs, ensuring they stay within the approved budget. Track changes to the project scope and adjust estimates accordingly. Prepare financial reports and track cash flow to ensure accurate payment schedules. Valuation of Work Carry out site measurements and inspections to verify the work done. Prepare interim and final valuation reports, ensuring that work is invoiced correctly. Assist in dispute resolution regarding payments and cost discrepancies. Contract Management Review and interpret contract terms and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Identify variations in contract terms, cost implications, and resolve issues with contractors and suppliers. Risk and Value Management Identify, analyze, and address any risks that could affect project costs or completion timelines. Implement value engineering techniques to optimize project costs and enhance profitability. Reporting and Documentation Provide detailed cost reports, forecasts, and analysis to project stakeholders. Maintain thorough documentation of project activities, including contracts, costs, and correspondence. Site Coordination Collaborate with site teams to ensure efficient project progress and cost management. Attend site meetings and provide updates on the financial status of the project. Compliance Quality Assurance Ensure that all project activities comply with legal, contractual, and regulatory requirements. Assist in the quality assurance process by ensuring material and workmanship standards are met. Job Requirements Education Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field. Experience Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in quantity surveying or a similar role within the construction industry. Experience working on civil engineering and infrastructure projects is preferred. Technical Skills Proficiency in quantity surveying software such as AutoCAD, MS Excel, and Primavera or MS Project. Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and contract laws. Experience in preparing BOQs, cost estimations, and tender documents. Knowledge of cost control methods and financial reporting systems. Soft Skills Analytical Skills Ability to evaluate costs, risks, and project data. Communication Skills Excellent verbal and written communication for interacting with clients, contractors, and project teams. Problem-Solving Strong ability to identify potential issues and implement effective solutions. Attention to Detail Precision in calculations, estimates, and documentation. Negotiation Skills Skilled in contract negotiations with vendors and subcontractors. Other Requirements Certifications Professional certifications in quantity surveying or construction management are a plus (e.g., MRICS, AIQS, or equivalent). Legal Knowledge Familiarity with construction laws, contract law, and procurement regulations. Teamwork Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Working Conditions Field visits to construction sites are required. Occasional overtime may be needed based on project timelines.
